What is Chiropractic?

Your Central Nervous System (brain and spinal cord) controls EVERY organ, system, cell, and function of your body- circulation, digestion, ability to fight off colds and even play with your children! To interfere with your nervous system's communication with the rest of your body will result in poor health and function. These interferences in communication are called vertebral subluxations. Chiropractors focus on finding and removing these subluxations.

Chiropractors are trained to ensure your nervous system is free of spinal nerve interference. They believe in whole body wellness. Your chiropractor will discover any spinal nerve interference within your spinal column and with specific chiropractic adjustments, will correct them. Your body will then be free to heal itself, express itself more fully and function at an optimal level. Chiropractors will also educate you how you can live "subluxation-free" which will prevent you from re-creating the same problems over and over. This is achieved through better posture (during work, sleep, sitting etc.), diet and nutrition, outlook on life, stretching, exercise and rest leading to a higher quality of life.

How much does it cost?

Good health involves a personal commitment. While an insurance company may be helpful, be careful not to allow a profit-motivated company to make decisions about how to care for your health. At Northern Community Chiropractic we make chiropractic care affordable for just about anyone who truly invests in their health!

How long do I have to go?

Since chiropractic care depends on the healing abilities of each patient, results vary since every practice member responds differently. Some detect changes in a few short days or weeks. Others may take weeks to months before showing progress. A full examination with the latest technology (certified by NASA) will help us determine your care.

What is Torque-Release Technique?

The "neurological" adjustment - Torque Release bases its technique on gentle and specific adjustments by hand (Toggle-Recoil) or by an instrument called an Integtrator.

This low-force adjusting method allows the nervous system to better integrate and understand the new corrective information and to process it throughout the spinal cord and brain. Your nerve system corrections do not stop once you get off the table. They continue as you breathe and move. You may notice that you hear a click or popping sound in your spine later on the same day after the torque release adjustment. That's your body realigning and correcting its own subluxations and releasing the deep tensions throughout the spinal system.

  1. Torque release teaches and empowers your body to make more corrections and healing with ongoing care.
  2. Because analysis and correction are not limited to just the area of pain and symptom, integration tends to be more complete and healing experiences are deeper in all areas of the body, mind, and emotions.
  3. TRT releases tensions on the nervous system by correcting disturbance where it attaches to bone. It leads to profound neurological changes that benefit everyone - no matter what symptom or level of health they are currently experiencing.
  4. The primary intent of Torque Release Technique is to progressively release tension / torsion / distortion of the entire neurological system; to release trapped unresolved patterns in the body/mind, and to facilitate reintegration of the nervous system, allowing a greater expression of one's healing and performance capabilities.

TRT is called a "tonal" technique because it normalizes the tone of the nervous system. Imagine that your nervous system has a volume control—if you turn the volume up too high, it causes distortion (increased tone) which can show up, for example, as internal organ complaints, musculoskeletal stresses, diminished immune response and emotional/behavioral problems. The same thing occurs if the volume control is set too low, in other words the nervous system is not sending enough messages to the body for what is necessary to get the job done (decreased tone). This causes your body systems to become sluggish. They slow down function and sometimes simply turn off. The muscles can become weak and do not support your skeleton well, leading to all sorts of aches and pains.

TRT corrects these problems with increased or decreased neurological tone by normalizing the functioning of the nerves, spinal cord and brain. TRT is based upon correcting nerve system disturbance called subluxations. The nerve system attachments to the spine only occur in a small number of sites; the skull, upper and lower neck area, the sacrum and coccyx (tailbone). What can I expect from Torque Release?

The effects you feel from a tonal adjustment are dependent upon your own body's healing capability. If you are mentally and physically ready to begin the healing process, the TRT protocol is a very powerful system, since it releases deep neurological stresses, even from events that happened earlier in your life. In fact some patients have stated that they have experienced memories from childhood during their Torque Release adjustments. This style of neurological correction is based upon repetition, energy, and time. It takes repetition to clear the neurological habit patterns that have been accumulating for years. It takes energy on both the doctor's part and your part to begin the healing process. And finally, it takes time for your body to heal.

Many people notice a tremendous sense of relaxation and well-being after a TRT adjustment. Most people take deep sighs after these adjustments as their bodies release deep neurological stresses that have been accumulating over the years. Overall, it's always a very pleasant and enjoyable experience.

What is a chiropractic adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment is the art of introducing a specific force in a precise direction, applied to a vertebra that is subluxated. Using the bony process of the vertebra, it is mostly characterized by a dynamic thrust of controlled amplitude. The adjustment releases the vertebra back into its normal position along the spine, allowing proper nerve flow to and from the brain.

There are numerous ways to adjust a spine. Each of the various techniques requires a specific force and line of drive. The adjustment is delivered either by the doctor's hands or a specially designed instrument. Some of the adjusting techniques are quick, while others require a slow constant pressure.

When should I be adjusted?

Every man, woman and child needs to make an appointment with a chiropractor to have their spine checked on a regular basis. Just like your scheduled dental appointments for proper dental hygiene, you need to have your spine checked on a regular basis.

You should also see a chiropractor if you have any symptoms which make it hard to cope day in and day out. If you have been involved in an accident, you should make an appointment with a doctor of chiropractic.

Remember, chiropractic care is not for the relief of symptoms, conditions or disease. It is essential to correct subluxations, so you continue to function and perform at your highest potential.

I didn't hear any noises or popping sounds when you worked on me. Did you really give me an adjustment?

There are many ways of adjusting patients. Some involve a physical movement of the joints between two spinal bones, resulting in the sound that people are so familiar with. Other techniques use light force that do not cause any sound. Both techniques work! It all comes down to the intent of the chiropractor in releasing stresses to your nervous system. Dr. Richter uses a combination of techniques to provide you the finest care possible. What types of conditions does TRT help?

It's important to note that TRT is not a treatment for specific diseases. TRT is meant to correct nerve system disturbance (subluxation) which is interfering with health, healing, repair and adaptability. Symptoms are indicators of changes occurring in the body. We don't necessarily want to turn off the symptom / indicator, but find out what is causing it. Allowing what controls all healing and repair to be released, and on the job at 100%, will maximize your response to whatever symptom or condition you may encounter. So if your body is experiencing stomach ulcers because of nerve stresses, we can help. If your body's immune system is depleted because of neurological stresses, we can help. If your body is experiencing back pain due to neurological stresses, we can help. Give us a call to begin your program of care and find out what all the excitement is about!

Is this technique safe for infants and children?

We have found that this technique is one of the best ones we've seen for all ages of children - from birth through adolescence. The technique is extremely gentle, with no forceful manipulations of the spine. Children really enjoy its gentleness and often hop up onto the tables in anticipation of their neurological corrections! This is one of the most powerful methods known to improve your child's health. top

Why do my children need chiropractic care?

The birth process can often be one of the most traumatic events of a child's life. The spine can often be injured during the delivery.

Having your child checked by chiropractor immediately after birth is a very wise decision. Spinal nerve interference from the birth process often because more serious as your child grows up. Only a doctor of chiropractic has the proper training and qualifications to diagnose and correct vertebral subluxations.

Your child's posture is an important indicator of spinal problems. Scoliosis is often caused by improper posture. By having your children checked at a young age, these problems might be prevented.

Children become involved in sports at a young age. These activities can often include minor injuries. When your children play, they are jumping, running, twisting, bumping and falling all over the place. Often they will become subluxated during these activities. To minimize the chance of future health problems it is important to have your children checked by a chiropractor on a regular basis.

Spinal hygiene should be part of your whole family's wellness lifestyle. top

What are Subluxations?

The body depends on the free flow of nerve communication from the brain, through the spinal column, to every part of the body. When any of these nerve signals become altered or distorted, the vital communication system is disrupted. These neurological disruptions are called subluxations.

What causes vertibral subluxations?

Subluxations are caused by stresses that are experienced, through the nervous system, greater than the nervous system can easily adapt to. Our nervous system is responsible for relating the external environment to our internal environment. Our external environment can be broken up into three main categories; physical things (like trauma, posture, sleeping positions, exercise), chemical things (like nutrition, prescription drugs, illegal drugs, pollution) and mental things (like relationship stress, job stress). Again, when you experience any of or a combination of these stresses beyond your nervous systems ability to easily adapt you will create a distortion in the nervous system. Chiropractors call this distortion a subluxation.
